Ice and watches in the Vallée de Joux

See the valley where the most expensive watches are made from different perspectives: the charming lakeside and as a contrast the wild side of the valley.

The Vallée de Joux was, and continues to be, famous for three different things: luxury watches, Vacherin Mont d’Or cheese and ice. From La Golisse we walk through the typical Jura meadows before we join the lake again at Les Esserts. We follow the lake as far as Le Lieu, where we join the back valley again.  This part of the hike gives us an impression of the raw winters, and helps us to understand  the origin and importance of the three products mentioned. Thanks to the raw winters, the ice from the frozen lake kept the beer cold during the summer in Paris.
